Privacy policy

Kin·Sheaf is a private space for your family and the groups you care about. This policy explains what we collect, what we do with it, and the choices you have. The short version: Kin·Sheaf counts. It never sells you.
What we collect
- Your account: the name and email Apple or Google shares when you sign in, and an account ID.
- Your profile in each family: what you or your relatives add, such as your photo, birthday, home city, work, phone number and how you're related to others.
- What you share: messages, posts, photos, voice recordings, videos, events, memorial pages and plans.
- Location, only if you turn it on: your city by default, or an area or exact spot if you choose, for as long as you choose.
- Contacts, only the people you pick when adding relatives. We never upload your address book.
- Device details needed to send notifications.
How we use it
- To run Kin·Sheaf for you and your families: showing what you share to the people you share it with, sending notifications, and keeping your phones in sync.
- Business insights, on every plan. We count trends across everyone on Kin·Sheaf, like how many nurses live in Atlanta or which parks host the most reunions, and share those totals with businesses. A total is only reported when it covers at least 25 people (and, for places, at least 5 separate families), only at city level or larger, and only for months that have ended. Totals never include anyone under 18, anyone who has passed, health, money or family-conflict topics, direct messages, sealed channels, or exact locations.
- Improving our AI, on the free plan only. In free families, posts and channel conversations from adults who agreed, with names and personal details removed, may help train Kin·Sheaf's AI. Sealed channels, direct messages, health, money and conflict topics, and anything from people under 18 are never used. A family plan turns this off for everyone in the family.
What we never do
- We never sell or share your profile, contact details, messages, photos, voice or video.
- We don't work with ad brokers, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
- Sponsors shown in free families are chosen by what you search for or plan, never by who you are.
Who sees what
What you share in a family is visible to the people in that family (or the channel you shared it in). Each family has its own copy of your profile; nothing crosses between families unless you share it. You can stop relatives from copying your profile into other families in Me → Privacy.
Service providers
We store data with Google Cloud in the United States, send notifications through Apple, and handle plan payments through Stripe on our website. Payments never pass through the app, and we never see your full card number. These providers only process data to run Kin·Sheaf for us.
Keeping and deleting
- Chat messages disappear on the schedule each channel sets (7 days by default), leaving a summary.
- You can delete your account anytime in Me → Account → Delete account. Your profile is removed from every family, and families only you are in are deleted with their files. Messages and photos you shared with others stay with those families, shown as from a former member.
- Backups are cleared within 30 days.
Children
Kin·Sheaf is for people 13 and older. Families can add younger relatives' names and birthdays to their family tree, but children can't create accounts, and nothing about anyone under 18 is used for insights or AI training.
Your rights
You can see and change your information in the app, download what you've shared, and delete your account. Depending on where you live you may have other rights, such as asking for a copy of your data or objecting to a use of it. Email us and we'll help.
Changes
If we change how we use your data, we'll tell you in the app before the change applies to you.
